Excited to have you as a vendor at another FELIZ! For those who might have missed you at the Fall sale, can you tell us a bit about Pretti.cool and what you’ll be bringing?
We are a group of seven creatives all based in the Houston area. What began as an excuse to get together over drinks and discuss our work turned into an opportunity to collaborate on something outside of our personal aesthetic or brand identity. Since we started meeting on a regular basis last fall, our “design experiment” has turned into a full-fledged line of accessories and homewares now carried in several locations across the US and in Canada. We plan to bring a bit of everything to Feliz, ranging from our hand-cast concrete and ceramic products to our soy candles, all natural indigo soap, textiles, and jewelry.
With so many talented folks behind the scenes how do you decide which ideas will go into development? Tell us how the design process goes for a new product.
In a practical sense, either someone from the team will have an idea and bring it before the group or simply toss out an idea in the style of “Would it be cool if we did/made this…” From there, we will decide if we like the concept, and if so we will either do a detailed drawing or just produce a sample. After that, the sample will get refined with group input. Assuming everyone likes the overall concept and design, we will then move more into finishes and colors. Color is a huge part of our brand identity, so a lot of talk about our products revolves around color at the final stages of the design process.
Can you share some of your favorite Houston spots to get inspired?
It’s always inspiring for us to visit museums around town like the MFAH or CAMH, but often it’s when we spend time with other creatives, whether it be those in Pretti.Cool or other creatives in Houston, that helps us to generate new ideas or refine our current ones. Several of us also tend to find solutions to our creative problems when we’re in the shower, haha.
What are you looking forward to at FELIZ?
Reconnecting with vendors we met at the last market and meeting some new people!
