Excited you’ll be joining the line-up this fall! For those who might not be familiar with hillmanpablo, can you share a bit about your business and what you'll be bringing to the sale?
hillmanpablo is an art and design collaborative between my husband (Jamin Pablo) and I (Lee Alice Pablo). We draw inspiration from our professional experiences in landscape and interior architecture to explore environment, color, pattern, and texture through painting and printmaking.
At the Feliz sale, we will be sharing colors, patterns and textures on paper - limited edition screenprints, screenprinted notecards and small paintings based on my larger work found at leealicehpablo.com.
You two are both creatives in your own right, what was the driving force that led to starting a joint venture?
We met 13 years ago on an art and design trip in college and just clicked sitting side by side sketching in the field. Though we graduated and practiced in different design fields, we would still find time to sketch and be creative together. Screenprinting became a natural way for us to work together outside the bounds of an office setting. Since I enjoy mixing colors and Jamin is (in my opinion) a natural screenprinter, it naturally progressed into a more collaborative practice.
What do you love most about the Austin creative community? Does it inform your work or practice in any way?
LA: We are still new to Austin (moved here from Houston a year ago), but what I like about the Texas creative community is the spirit that anything is possible. I like that there is a collective of people from all over and with different backgrounds, but with the same dream to have the freedom to explore creatively. Of course it informs my work! It provides me a healthy atmosphere to create.
J: We have been Texans for over 10 years but in Austin for only the last year. I've found that a lot of the people I have worked with here are extremely passionate about their crafts and do not wear just one hat. It is a place of multi-creatives and a good place to be creative.
Finish the sentence: I feel most creatively fulfilled when…
LA: ....I have spent several hours in the studio in flow out of my head and using my heart to move my hands.
J: Seeing people enjoy spaces and places I help design. Also having my studio and screen time (not the digital kind).
Where do you find inspiration away from the screen?
LA: On a kayak on the Llano River or Lady Bird Lake, a hot shower, gardening in our yard, and singing in a choir.
J: Lee Alice and other artists and creatives. Traveling to see new places, no matter how near or far. And of course, landscapes, both natural and urban. Also, my cat.
