Hi Cassie. We are excited you’ll be bringing High Sun Low Moon to FELIZ. Can you tell us a bit about your brand and what you’ll be bringing to the sale?
High Sun Low Moon celebrates the natural beauty and sacredness of our earthly existence. Herbal and plant offerings are made in small batches with the purpose of creating sacred space and as an homage to living well, both in the body and beyond. The spirit of the brand weaves together self care, ritual and the setting of potent intentions. To the sale, I will be bringing quality crafted body, face and hair oils, wildcrafted smudge sticks, hand ground incense blends and other offerings.
When did you decide to launch your own business and what led you to the decision?
I’ve been surrounded by herbalism for awhile now and would occasionally lend a hand to the wise women around me. As I gained knowledge I slowly started experimenting and making things to care for myself which then led to making things for my friends and family. High Sun Low Moon was a natural next step. Although HSLM as a brand is new - it feels like a natural culmination of my last few years, my interests, passions and dreams. I feel blessed to get to travel this path.
You became a new mother last year, did becoming a mother change your approach to beauty and wellness?
Being pregnant and becoming a mother helped me tune into my body in a deeper way and gave me a new confidence in my intuition. More than anything it gave me the time to delve into what nourished me and my growing family. Making products for myself helped me slow down and stay centered in the whirlwind of motherhood. I wanted to offer that to others by helping them slow down and feel better connected. We all could use a little more of that.
AND to get to know you a bit better...
Hometown: Boerne, Texas
Astrological Sign: Aquarius
What would we find you doing on a Sunday afternoon in Austin?
I love to attend the Mueller farmers market on Sunday mornings, and roam around park afterwards with my toddler. Sunday afternoons are a slow reset for the rest of the week. We tend to do a lot of deep cleaning, cooking, and if I’m lucky I’ll slip in a run around town lake.
What was the last big risk you took?
I’d say bringing High Sun Low Moon to life. It was hard for me to wrap my head around how to start a company. Taking the leap was the hardest part. Luckily I have some wonderful friends, and an incredibly inspiring partner who helped me get the ball rolling.
Do you have any rituals, whether in self care or just daily life, that you follow?
I’m an air sign who needs a lot of grounding and alone time to recharge. Incorporating rituals into my life is absolutely necessary for me to accomplish the multitude of tasks throughout the day. I take tons of baths. I drink coffee in the mornings and herbal tea in the evenings. I run and do yoga throughout the week. I meditate in my backyard, or at least attempt to once a day. I burn a lot of incense. I say a lot of little mantras. These sort of things keep me eager and open.
Last great travel destination?
Bali, Indonesia. The Balinese and Hindu cultures have greatly affected my vision for High Sun Low Moon. Offerings and gratitude are everywhere - with incense burning for the gods around every corner. It’s a hard place to forget.
Be sure to stop by the High Sun Low Moon booth on May 6th to meet Cassie and pick up some Sacred Soak for Mom.
