Welcome back to another FELIZ sale! We are thrilled to have such a loyal store sponsor. I'd love to know what you enjoy about FELIZ and what keeps you coming back?
I love FELIZ! I think it was one of the first in-person selling experiences that gave me the confidence to open our store-front. Its a great mix of customers and vendors that appreciate independent design and local businesses. It's also important to me to be part of a community that helped me grow my business and fosters local independent design.
ARO offers jewelry and accessories, women's apparel and even home goods. How do you select what brands you will carry in your physical store? Is there an ARO customer you have in mind when shopping? Who might they be?
I don't have a process but I generally like to carry lines that are emerging, unique and different from what's available at most stores. That's something I consider when researching brands and won't pursue a line if it's carried in too many shops or department stores.
Since the majority of what we carry is jewelry, our customer really varies and we can sell the same piece to a young college student or to their grandmother. However, ARO's customer tends to be a little more artistic and bold - they aren't afraid to wear trends. They have a creative side and express it through the way they dress and the items they surround themselves with. Of course, that varies in so many ways and that's why ARO's selection is so eclectic.
As a business that running both as an e-commerce shop as well as a brick-and-mortar, what's some advice you'd offer to someone interested in opening a physical store vs. keeping it all online?
That's a good question. My biggest advice to anyone is to be prepared. Have a strong, concrete and realistic business plan for the next few years. Marketing specifically for the brick-and-mortar is really important. People may discover your shop, but it's not going to be the case the majority of the time. I still put many hours a week into marketing and advertising for our brick-and-mortar.
Who are a few of your favorite brands right now?
Look for ARO on May 6th at Palm Door on Sabine.
