So excited to have you at FELIZ this spring. We are big fans of your store! Could you share with us the story of how EA/ST Co. came to be?
E A / S T co. was born out a love of beautiful design + thoughtful craftsmanship. I wanted to create a space that celebrated independent artists and designers, told their stories, and provide a unique place in the Austin community to give their goods a home.
You have such a well curated inventory. How would you describe EA/ST Co.'s style and who might be your shopper?
Well, thank you! I would describe our style as warm modern. Is that a thing?
Our shoppers appreciate the details and the stories behind the goods they bring into their home. They nerd out over small design details, believe that the feeling of the aesthetic in their home can impact their life profoundly, and care deeply about the environmental and human impact the goods they purchase make on the world.
I know you had a different career before you opened your shop. Was there a pivotal moment for you that launched you in this new direction? Or was it a more organic shift?
I have worked in retail, was a bartender, a massage therapist, and founded an apothecary business. I’d like to think that all those paths gave me skills and teachings that lead me to this point. Now that I’m here, I feel like I’ve settled down into a big comfy chair and found my happy spot.
What’s some advice you might give to someone interested in changing directions in their career?
It is so scary. You have to be crazy enough to take big risks. Also - read a lot of books, talk to people who have been there before you, and get an accountant + lawyer.
AND to get to know you a bit better…
Astrological Sign: Capricorn
What would we find you doing on a Sunday afternoon in Austin? At the shop!
What's been inspiring you lately? The artists and designers I am lucky enough to work with are a constant source of inspiration.
