We are excited you’ll be joining us this year at FELIZ. Can you share a bit about your business and what you’ll be bringing to the sale?
Fresherthan is a merch shop, online & mobile, that has allowed us to design things we love and put together art shows and parties that are unique in Dallas. Our current product obsessions are pins, patches, art prints, stickers, and apparel so we will be bringing a ton of these items to the show.
The Fresherthan offerings reflect an influence of Texas pride and pop culture of the 90’s and 00’s. I’d love to know how you design for Fresherthan. Are you designing for yourself or is there a Fresherthan audience?
We both have a background in design and fashion so this is our chance to create the things that we have an actual interest in. We love designing for ourselves but we also love to find out what our customers and fans want. At the end of the day, we are customers looking for things that we can't always find. If we figure out that we're not the only ones, we spend hours finding out if we can make it ourselves.
You recently hosted the Pin & Patch Show in Dallas. Tell us about your interest in these accessories and how this event came to be.
The Pin & Patch Show was an event that we knew was missing in Dallas. We kept seeing other pin makers from other states attending these shows and making new fans and we were fed up with not having that opportunity here. So we did what we always do and decided to make it ourselves. We gathered up a ton of our artist friends, got a venue that was perfect for it & even started a new part of our business where we could help others get their pins & patches manufactured through us. It was a very grassroots event that turned out to be a great success! We can't wait to start planning the next one...maybe with some great Austin makers in the lineup this time!
AND to get to know you a bit better…
Hometown: Dallas, TX
Astrological Sign: Nick Q: Leo Dana Johnson: Aquarius
What would you be doing if you had a different career? We would still be designing...but from a beach somewhere.
What was the last big risk you took? Quitting a huge job managing an art team and making apparel for every major retailer to focus on Fresherthan.
Tell us about a app/hack/website/thing that has made your life easier. Procreate on iPad Pro! That app is amazing. It's like having mobile photoshop that we use to draw from anywhere. We love the setup so much that we have two. We can't share our design tools when we both have a spark of creativity.
Where do you find inspiration away from the computer? We love to get out and shop. We are always in other stores and seeing what is happening in the retail world. We love finding inspiration but also seeing what people AREN'T doing. Our friends are huge influences on us as well. We love being able to visit people, go out of town and really just see what everyone is into everywhere we go.
See the full collection of Fresherthan goods here and be sure to stop by their booth on Sunday, May 6th.
