Mallory, also known as The Rebel Stylist, has style in her bones. She spent her childhood tagging along with her personal shopper mom getting to know the ins and outs of smart styling. After losing her to cancer at age 15, Mallory further embraced her love of style and even went on to study textile and apparel design in college. After working for some big name designers, Alice + Olivia and Anne Klein, Mallory decided to put her own spin on things and thus The Rebel Stylist was born.
Now Mallory does everything from personal styling, to photo shoot styling to retail consulting, but her best kept secret: vintage denim sourcing. Dream jeans, found! Mallory will be bringing along her collection of denim dream boats to next weekend's Feliz and we couldn't be more psyched.
Feliz: What is it about jeans? There really is something that so universal about them. What drew you in?
Mallory: I fell in love with the story of denim - they are truly a piece of American history. From miners, to soldiers, and eventually to the mainstream as sign of rebellion and youth culture, denim plays a role in every part of America's past. The type of person who wore them and the type of work they did in them is literally etched into every pair. Each one is unique and I find so much beauty in the way the stitching on the pockets are distressed or how someone DIY repaired them. The romance of the story behind them is what I really fell in love with and what I think is so universal about them.
Feliz: It seems like you wear a lot of different hats in your work. What's it like shifting gears so regularly? Does it feel seamless to you?
Mallory: I like hats! Yes, I do wear a lot of them but I view every new project as a way to strengthen and expand my skill set. My main passion is styling and personal shopping but I have recently gotten into photography in addition to building websites and assisting clients with email marketing campaigns and so on. To me this is just how the modern world works. The more knowledge and understanding of the entire process, the better product I can produce. My creative work is just one step in the overall big picture, so I always keep that in mind which helps me switch into different roles based on the task.
Feliz: Favorites: jeans? place to wear them? thing to do in them?
Mallory: My favorite jeans right now are a made in the USA pair of 501s. The fit is perfection and I cropped and frayed them which I love wearing headed into summer. They also have the best wallet wear and beautiful creasing on the front. I pretty much wear them everywhere but feel sexiest in them paired with a plunging bodysuit and some suede mules. Whether my husband and I are playing pool at The Grand or if I'm hanging with friends on the patio of The San Jose, I always notice when a gal walks in wearing an amazing pair of vintage denim.
