24 Hours with Lindsey Wohlgemuth

Let's spend a little time in the world of Foxwares designer Lindsey Wohlgemuth. Known for its understated simplicity, Foxwares looks to the past for its foundation. Working this way links the line to traditional techniques while adapting to function in the modern home. And fittingly, all of Lindsey's work is made by hand in her lovely Austin home.

Coffee in the backyard. It’s nice to sleep in on mornings when the kiln is on. The studio is still too hot to work in and I can have a leisurely morning.

10:06 a.m.

Every Monday I wipe the board clean and write everything I need to throw for the week, due dates and make a kiln schedule. This week it’s completing an order of bowls for Lick Ice Creams.

10:14 a.m.

Mixing glazes. For me, glazing used to be an afterthought and it always had the potential for something to go wrong. Since I’ve started mixing my own glazes, I can think about the forms, colors and textures working together and the final result is more cohesive.

10:58 a.m.

Shopping list. I’ve been on a search quest for a recipe for a bright green glaze to use for tiles. I’m making a list of ingredients to check against what I already have on hand and it looks like I need to pick up a couple of materials.

12:36 p.m.

Lunch in the backyard. Our dining table is filled with prototypes and glaze samples right now. I don’t think we’ve actually eaten on it for the past two weeks.

12:52 p.m.

Photoshoot. Long before we were married, Dimitar and I used to dream about quitting our jobs and being a photographer + stylist duo for food magazines. It never occurred to us that we would be designing and making dinnerware together.

2:07 p.m.

We met Erica from Flitch Coffee at the very first Feliz show we were part of. Her shop is only three blocks from Armadillo Clay Supplies and we always make a stop for a delicious cortado or iced latte on the patio.

4:41 p.m.

Afternoon siesta. We had to replace the living room couch with a hammock after our cats took complete ownership of it. How can anyone resist this snuggle partner?

6:09 p.m.

The kiln has finished firing and it’s time to get some work done. My friend Nicole builds custom wood furniture and we’re collaborating on a fun project together.
