At each sale we get a ton of compliments on how beautiful it looks. While we wish we could take total credit for that, we tell our admirers that the Palm Door is a big part of what makes Feliz so charming. Their interior is peaceful and homey, and their porch and patio area makes a great escape from shopping. Truly, Feliz would not be Feliz without the Palm Door
Both your locations feel like such peaceful oases in downtown Austin. How does it feel to have the city constantly growing and expanding around your venues?
It's exciting to be apart of the city constantly growing! With the influx of new people flocking to the city gives us the opportunity to expand to new people everyday. At Palm Door on Sabine, we are lucky to be in a hidden corner on Sabine Street. Apart of the city's constant growth, we have firsthand seen the Waller Creek Conservancy renovations come to life! We have a beautiful view of the Waller Creek re-haul and are fortunate to see the growth of the project. Palm Door on Sixth Street has gained great exposure during South by Southwest. The venue was booked from people all over the world, including Iceland! All in all, we only see opportunity for growth with the city's expansion and can't wait to see what the next chapter holds!
What are the most common mistakes you feel like people who are renting a venue make?
One of the main priorities after booking the venus is finding the right caterer. It is imperative to have a caterer that is hands on and will help to facilitate extra needs with break-down and clean-up. Bringing on a full-service caterer is crucial to make the event seamless. At Palm Door on Sabine, we make it as easy as possible for each client. The venue operates itself with the intimate loft space and having existing furniture in-house.
I can't imagine how organized you must have to be to run an entertainment space - do you have any tricks to staying on top of work that you'd like to share?
Yes, there are many facets in the event industry! Dealing with so many clients, we use an organization tool called "Pipedrive." This project management tool helps us to organize each client and manages the step-by-step process of booking.
How are things going with the Palm Door on 6th? Did you guys do anything during SXSW? Palm Door on Sixth is heavy in booking season! With major renovations, we are able to showcase the venue in a new light. We recently put astro turf on the back patio, which makes for a great lounge area for corporate events. Both venues were exclusive to South by Southwest. Palm Door on Sabine was lucky enough to book the official SXstyle closing party with Nylon Magazine! Palm Door on Sixth was busy with their stellar lineup of artists ranging from indie act Best Coast to hip hop sensation Too $hort. Both venues were grateful to have a successful and safe SXSW! Can't wait for next year!
