Is there ever an occasion that flowers don't make better? We think not. Call us old fashioned, but we still think flowers are the best way to say the unsayable. When trusting your heartfelt I-love-yous, congratulations & you're-the-bests with others there always the risk of it coming out off -- not the case with Bricolage Curated Florals. Proprietress, Samantha Jensen, has a way with flowers, a way of putting things together just so. Her work is both incredibly special and somehow unfussy. The combination truly makes for a warm & special arrangement. We're so excited to be featuring her gorgeous work yet again at Feliz.

We’ve been crushing on your beautiful flowers for ages. They’re so gorgeous & almost feel as if they’re from another time. Can you tell us where you’re finding inspiration for your work these days?
Dang, you're a sweetie!
Honestly, I feel like our creative culture is highly lacking originality- But, I don't think it's necessarily our fault.. Because the internet and social media is a MASSIVE part of everyone's lives these days, it's way easier to share creativity, which is awesome, but it also leads to a bunch of copying... Which is sort of, empowering (for someone to want to try and recreate what you've done) but also it makes it hard to be original.
So, finding daily inspiration NOT from the web, for my floral designs is super important for me... I try to find inspiration from natural things and day to day life- The shrub outside of work, or my emotions that day, or how vine is growing up the trellis at Uchiko, How my morning coffee moment made me feel, a ladies outfit color palette.. On a less abstract scale, I feel my creative juices start to flow when I take-in architectural and interior design. But ultimately, I think floral design inspiration is hugely brought on by emotions, which is great because I want everyone to get the feels when they see my work.
What inspired your name: Bricolage Curated Florals? It’s got such a lovely ring to it.
Bricolage (french art or lit. term)- Creation from a diverse range of materials
Curated (like a museum curator) - select, organize, and look after the items
Florals- Didn't like the ring of "blooms" or "petals" or "flowers" floral suggests more than just actual blooms.
How did you get started in the floral world? Is this always what you envisioned yourself doing?
Not at all! I dropped out of college to pursue a career in specialty coffee in hopes that one day I would open a shop myself. I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur... The coffee shop I started managing allowed me to bring in fresh flowers every week, to bring some life to the space- I had never really been interested in arranging flowers, but dabbeled in other creative things, so at the opportunity, I decided to make the shops flowers an important task week to week... People started noticing and would ask who was behind them, leading me to my first client, Contigo. From there it kind of snowballed and I learned that
word of mouth is a super powerful thing... As is working for a very popular coffeeshop in town (I owe them all the thanks in the world for this journey I am on).
Now today, though you can still find me pulling shots at Houndstooth Coffee, BCF has 20 weekly clients (restaurants, coffeeshops and hotels) we provide wedding services, florals and styling for commercial shoots and personalized one-off delivery services.
Funnily enough I like to arrange flowers to unwind. I imagine you’d pick something else since you work with flowers professionally all day. What’s your go-to chillax thing?
Oh man, lots of things-- Recently, I've been dabbling in knitting and totally love it! Sometimes, its making pies or quiche (crust and all) I also really love to run, the therapy I get from it is so valuable multiple times a week.
Pro tip time: tell us about an app/hack/website/thing that has made your life easier.
I always say I owe my life to Instagram. But for real, Quickbooks app and Square app. help keep all my crazy financial stuff organized, which is is awesome because bookkeeping is the worst and stresses me out like no other.
